Canvas
The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) led a public engagement process called Canvas from July to September 2014. Over 300 people provided their ideas and comments during Canvas for the future use of the red zone land in Kaiapoi, Pines Beach and Kairaki. You can read more in the Canvas Summary Report (released in December 2014).

Kaiapoi
A awesome go-Kart track so there are more activities in Kaiapoi. It will give kids like me a good amount of fun!

A zoo and a pool

I would love to see the Charles St road taken out from Jones St and this area grassed over. It could have a lovely picnic area with gas bbq's? tables etc, a playground for kids, and an awesome dog park like the Groynes in the area between Charles St and Sewell St (I would put my hand up to do working bees to do this). I know people would travel to use the dog park, as myself and many people I know travel into CHCH. This would also bring business, if more places like the Rivertown Cafe welcomed dogs outside. :)
Also I would love to see the walkway/cycleway on the stop bank reinstated, it was awesome, and you could use it in all weather. I think the riverbank area should be used for recreation; I'd hate to see it taken over with buildings or vehicles.
The area where the old BMX track would make a great wildlife area.
& I think a food forest would be excellent for the community.

What would you like to see happening on this land? What do I want this land to reflect? Community. Fix the land, and the pipes (that haven't been touched since the earthquake) so the streets stop flooding, so that we can bring people and houses back to the Kaiapoi area.

make it in beautiful park and sports fields.
big pond and trees.

As the world of paid employment becomes ever less rewarding for the majority in our region more space will be required to provide the opportinyty for rewarding recreation. The Kaiapoi space should be configured to enable the following future uses:-
Native plant reserve, propogation area.
Community gardens, neighbourhood allotments, fruit and nut tree orchards.
Motor home/caravan parking in conjunction with the NZMCA. Also allow short term stay for overseas tourists in selfcontained vehicles.
Outdoor performance area.
Farmers market and food fare venue.
No way to freedom camping, we have plenty of good camping grounds
Kaiapoi
Emery Park
Solar park with wind, water

Fully fenced dog park with trees and bench seat maybe in the Courtney Drive reserve area.

Market stall area - like the Riccarton bush markets

In the Courteney Area I would like native shrubs and trees planted to form an area such as Deans Bush.
No rebuilding on red zoned land

I'd like to see the food forest idea expanded into a heritage 'botanic' gardens specialising in edible and domestic plants pioneers and Maori used for eg. medicine, craft, textiles, dyeing, pest control. The stock could then become a NZ seed bank repository for colder climate native and exotic heritage. The seeds/cuttings could be sold for revenue to help cover WDC maintenance expenses for the red zone or lease the rights to do so. Produce from the plants would be available to the public and community support services just as produce from the food forest would. Historical research would be required. The gardens would then also become a tourist and educational destination. Lincoln Uni or UC may be interested in assisting. Some maintenance would be required but should be able to be incorporated into existing WDC depts.. This idea could be combined with sculpture park, bike trails etc. From preliminary research nothing else like this currently exists in Sth Island.

At last, options for decent roads into the TC3 area in NE Kaiapoi.
Option 4 is the preferred route for us.
We prefer the option with a new road going from cass st through to feldwick dr.. If option 4 was thats small one that goes from beach road to the end of feldwick that seems like there will be issues around it. For starters i don't want to have to drive that way to then have to drive in to the centre of town. Then with the new subdivision it will increase traffic and Beach Rd isn't the widest of roads. Also the increased traffic will then affect the Williams/Beach intersection is already dangerous

Needs to be a better place
Kaiapoi
Satellite free parking at places like Belfast to allow people to take bikes and commute into central city on safe vehicleless cycleways
Great idea.
