Canvas
The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) led a public engagement process called Canvas from July to September 2014. Over 300 people provided their ideas and comments during Canvas for the future use of the red zone land in Kaiapoi, Pines Beach and Kairaki. You can read more in the Canvas Summary Report (released in December 2014).

Kaiapoi
I would like to see as many trees and shrubs from peoples gardens being preserved. Park land where suitable; perhaps cycle tracks for bike riders.
Kaiapoi
There was an error msg on submitting the 2nd question 'something has gone wrong', so reposting here:
Acknowledge the impact of the earthquakes, and that this place (the red zone) was people's homes and communities before earthquakes. Acknowledge the huge loss it represents to individuals, families and communities. Create a community green space for recreation and bring closer to nature. A green space with a wild/free aspect to it (eg native bush with walking and mountain bike trails, not acres of rugby fields). A place to remember, and to celebrate getting through, being stronger, recovering, growing.
Kaiapoi
A fitness area eg. bars and lifts, climbing things, step ups etc.
Kaiapoi
I woud like to see mud slides and water slides so people will be able to get outside and do something adventurous so people aren't inside on social media. And trampolines built into the ground.
Kaiapoi
A green space ie. trees, parks, walking and biking abd for picnicing. An area which reflects the cultural heritage of the area and its significance for local Maori
Kaiapoi
Ideas from 11 August Community Workshop:
* Walking tracks, cycling tracks
* Small lake to get bird life back
* No farms
* Picnic and BBQ areas
* No fences
* Not all flat land
* Big walking track like Styx Rd
* Dog Park
* Name the tracks after the streets that have gone so people can maintain a connection to the area
* Could have picnic/BBQ areas, also incorporate BMZ track
* Bring people back to the river
* Separate horse riding track
Kaiapoi
I would like to see a high quality nature area set up for disabled people to 'walk' enjoy nature and include a fitness/exercise course for them. This would also appeal to elderly - a much neglected people when such areas are set up.
Brilliant idea
Lin
Kaiapoi
made into massive park, trees, including fruit trees so the community can pick the fruit. Paths meandering through the grass and trees, cycleways for passive cycling. Not heapsof buildings just toilet blocks, BBQs, picnic benches. Trees that bring birds.
Kaiapoi
Parks
Walkways
Cycleways

Kaiapoi

Kaiapoi
Native species planted in areas that are suitable for dry or wet areas as is appropriate for good growth. Walkways and picnic areas created amongst these plantings.
Kaiapoi
We believe that it is time for a multi sports facility. Rugby league is keen to see the long term use of this land available for all sports groups and public to utilise.
Kaiapoi
BMX track
Childrens Park
Skate Park
Dog Park
Picnic Areas
Pines / Kairaki Beaches
Parks for children and families.
Walkways with nice vegetation.
Maybe a sculpture park.
Maybe a skate park and muralled area.
Beautiful Picnic Park at Kairaki
Kaiapoi
Been made into BBQ area with BBQs and tables, with motor cross and bmx tracks
Kaiapoi
I would like to see a Canterbury Earthquake Memorial Park on the north side of Kaiapoi river. A cycle/walking trail with signs detailing the streets that were here, photos of the damage in Kaiapoi and the memorial letterbox sculpture etc. This would be a fitting tribute to what Kaiapoi went through, acknowledge the past and also create a beautiful park area for the future - this could include native bush elements, play equipment, sporting elements etc. It would also create a major attraction to bring more tourism dollars to Kaiapoi/Canterbury.
In the Courtney drive end, a proper covered bus terminal with a coffee machine and park n ride faciliies would be an excellent idea, particularly at the more industrial end.
What a great idea to the commemorate the old Kaiapoi and incorporate it with the new Kaiapoi with a garden with interpretation panels of our journey as a community. In time the memories of what was will fade and it would be nice to have an area dedicated to the old Kaiapoi and a trail with posts of what was along the way.

Kaiapoi
-Green area - trees - walkways - cycle ways (particularly for children)
-Dog park
-Activities for young people eg skateboard park
Kaiapoi
Our English architecture and heritage momentos.
Colourful fountains and lights
Statues of pioneers to the areas
Nice ideas - let's not rush to forget our past, there is so much to celebrate - and learn from.
Kaiapoi
A nature walk, pond, picnic areas, local information, sculptures. Things to eat (orchard, trees etc.) Some plaques with poetry.
Kaiapoi
Rugby grounds
Totally agree with the dog park - and definitely make it better than the Rangiora one which is awful and is not looked after properly.
Would love to see a dog park in Kaiapoi. Great way to meet fellow dog owners and have somewhere safe to socialise our dogs without having to leave town.
