Kaiapoi

A dog park like the Groynes.
Rangiora one is not sufficient.
Natural reserve areas

Kaiapoi

1. A small forestry plantation which could provide money for future council.
2. Divided into small lifestyle blocks with some farming.

Kaiapoi

I think it should be used for recreational areas.
Playgrounds, walking areas, native trees.

Kaiapoi

Seattle food forests - example for Burwood-Richmond areas. Don't need much maintenance unlike community gardens

Excellent idea - I hope Burwood (and Richmond) follow suit.

I would like to see a marina created into the Cass street area with a possible double lock system eventually as in Hull, UK for tidal access into the river and to maintain the water around the boats all day long . Then we could have not only boats capable of crusing the river, but also then possibly some houseboats , floating cafe. etc. Surrouned by cafes and art sculptures to create a catalyst and a mecca for people to want to stop and have a walk round.
I understand people are touch about building around water now , but living on it is a different concept. Seattle has some stunning houseboats as does Amsterdam and both attract tourism etc.
The river needs some floating pontoons along the river where people can board boats/kayaks from and fish from too.
The current boat access at Cass street is poor and constantly floods at high tide now and with a little care would service the community whilst some of the more grander projects get underway.

Kay

Wonderful idea for at least two reasons - firstly the population of the area has increased, and secondly there is greater poverty post quake.

Develop an area in the Kaiapoi Red Zone that could be used for a jet sprint course. The development would include:
-A shallow hollow covering 1ha of land, that could retain water (0.5m in depth when filled )
-The ability to fill and drain water from the hollow
-Embankments surrounding the hollow to act as grandstand/seating
-Car parking and vehicle access in close vicinity
The course could be used for:
- multi-use; and act as an outdoor theatre/amphitheatre, mountain bike course, storm water pond etc
-Filled with water for a jet sprint course at various times in the year (but only for one or two days at a time, as necessary for the event)
Jet Sprint course option
-At various times of the year jet sprints could be held at the course, including the NZ circuit races, World Champs, and fundraising events to support local charities (eg: St Johns)
-Peter Caughey is a the World Jet Sprint title holder, and is a Waimakariri resident, and would support the course

Wouldn't jet sprints be better off in the Waimak? Like the idea of developing watersports but environmental factors are important.

Community gardens - the soil near the river will probably be good, chance for community to be active, focus on nutrition etc.

Kaiapoi

A park like setting created with seating, mature trees. Maybe a reminder of the EQ by way of a picture board of what used to be there previous.

It would be my wish, should it transpire some time in the future, that the red zone adjacent to the river is ever considered again for residential development, that the former owners of these properties are the first people to be given the opportunity of purchasing back their sections.

Ha guay

Excellent point - even better would be for the former owners to be able to purchase their sections at the current rating value, but the price the Crown paid would suffice.

Good point, Cheryl.

Nancy

This would be great - but the former owners should be able to purchase their sections at the same rip off price they were paid for them

Pines / Kairaki Beaches

Improved access to pines beach parking area that is open & perhaps cycle tracks

Kaiapoi

Golf course
Mountain bike/ cycle tracks

Kaiapoi

Kaiapoi North East - it should be a park NOT residential. The native plants should be kept and fruit trees. The BMX track, childrens playground, miniature "Hagley Park" and revert the ground back into swamp with a track winding its way through.

Kaiapoi

A settled land area where people may visit for recreation. Park type settings with some suitable buildings back from beaches.
Some conservation practices in place to preserve what is possible to conserve.

Kaiapoi

Market gardens - land coulc be leased to growers
or allotments

Kaiapoi

Coordinated integrated rail and road transport - not just more motorways

Yes clip on bridge and cycle ways too. Train would be good. Hard to convince others

Begin now, dredge our river annually. When the Tuhoe goes away for her bottomscape. Along her route and west beyond Mandeville Bridge

waste of money who would pay for it? not the ratepayers!

And narrowboats on the river!

Nancy

Kaiapoi

Areas of native bush like Riccarton Bush they don't have to be large areas. To bring back bird life.
A camping ground, so Tourist people can use the Kaiapoi River more.
