Kaiapoi
Recreational uses only.
Give an opportunity to small groups that would develop.
Do not add unneccessary rate cost.

Parkland incorporating the Kaiapoi Lakes and Courtney Lake.
A foot bridge across the Kaiapoi river to connect with Courtney Lake.
Walk and bicycle track around the perimeter of the park.
Beautiful gardens including Rhododendrons etc. Kaiapoi needs brightening up.
An area set aside for a large Farmers Market, roofed with open sides similiar to the Matakana Market which has now become a universal destination.
A Community organic garden and orchard that would produce fresh produce that could also be sold at the Farmers Market and the funds used for community.
Kaiapoi
I would like to see much of this land set aside for horticulture use. A lot of good land has been taken over for housing and this would be a good opportunity to restore the balance.

- I would like to see Courtenay Drive re-aligned closer to, but not directly abutting, the green zone housing. Having a major link road in the middle of a red zone only encourages hoon type activities and inhibits what could be done with a freed up larger land area.
- Courtenay Drive - No heavy trucks permitted to use it as a through road.
- Dog park.
- Tennis courts.
- BMX track.
- Skate park.
- Park with paths (walking/cycle), seating, picnic tables, shelter trees etc in the area between Hilton St/Courtenay Drive and the Kaiapoi River.
- I would like to see Kaiapoi reflect more of it's "River Town" heritage.
- Pathways/cycleways along the riverside stopbanks.
- Let's foster kayaking, rowing, fishing etc, establish a marina on the north bank of the Kaiapoi.
- Provision for more off-street parking closer to the shops in Williams St.

Immediately I would like to see the red zone in Courtenay cleaned up. We were informed by CERA that as blocks of houses were cleared the land would be levelled and grassed. We now have partially dismantled houses and foundations a number waiting for removal stored on red land and general rubbish dumped in the area . roads and footpaths are a mess and full of dirt and rubbish. It is a daily reminder for us living here.
Eventually I would like to see the road along the river bank from Raven Quay lost in the earthquake replaced or the area upgraded to from part of the development around the Council building. The walkway along the Kaiapoi to the mouth be rebuilt. The northern side of the Kaiapoi to Askeaton and the Ashkeaton reserve be reinstated with a clean up of the river from the Cam to Askeaton. The remainder of the land cleared levelled and grassed until the future is determined
The security of residents adjacent to red areas also needs to be considered

Make the most of the river.
Kaiapoi
- High performance equestrian sports centre
- Leverage off high performance sports medicine cluster in city
- Leverage off lifestylers in hinterland
- Links to horse trail ideas but creates a national sports focus.
- Also support some sort of BMX part as well
Kaiapoi
Develop into a series of reserves - treed with planting to encourage native bird life
Kaiapoi
A awesome go-kart track so there are more activities in Kaiapoi. It will give kids like me a good amount of fun!
Kaiapoi
In extreme areas of liquifaction a mini botanical garden with a man-made river for drainage. Low cost leases for allotments in conjunction with volunteers and housing if land can be made viable.
Kaiapoi
Park land - turn it into green belts and natural habitats. Areas where people can go and relax. Turn red into green - why build on everything?
Kaiapoi
I would like to see setup in kaiapoi possibly in the area around courtenay drive an old english hedge maze that was community run with refreshment stalls etc, this would give people a place to come too and visit Kaiapoi for it beauty and see what other things kaiapoi has to offer.
Another idea was also to set up a jet sports lake so Kaiapoi can host NZ Jet Sports Champs the same as they are hosted at lake Rotu Kahutu in Christchurch, this in turn would bring big players to Kaiapoi and allow for money to be put back into the community.
Also another Idea was for a Youth entertainment facility which could host alcohol free events for youth including guest djs and dance parties.
Brady took us to Chatsworth House in the UK. I'm pretty sure he takes everyone there, but we talked him into giving the maze a go. My wife figured it out muc...

Ideas from 13 August Community Workshop:
* Native birds/bush - don't remove anymore vegetation
* 'Mountain to the sea' vegetation corridor
* Aim for forest- easterly protection for North East/ possibly Courtenay Drive area
* Keep the sense of history"- historical village (aka Ferrymead) - working pa.. Working artists precinct .. Quite close into town centre
* Coutenay Drive long term does have rebuild potential but lower areas recreation
* Close into town centre car-parking to support town centre.. Both sides.. "reserve" more than you immediately need (land banking)
* Rowing club needs boat trailer parking
* Potentially commercial development
* West Kaiapoi- car-parking to support Murphy Park/ Borough School
* Kaiapoi community garden provision in this block
* NE Area - BMX, dog park, good cycling/ walking.. Trail Courtenay- across bridge-red zone NE - Kairaki (along a stop bank) see this as part of a wider cycle trial initiative
Kaiapoi
Do not want to see houses built on the land or business. Would like to see it as a recreational area, golf links or park as the shrubs and trees we have already planted to stay.
Pines / Kairaki Beaches
I would like to see an orchard planted in the area bordered by Dunns Ave, Chichester St, Hood Ave and Reid Memorial. Other parts of Pines Kairaki could have community gardens, a dog training area and an area for horse riders to use.
Maybe some beehives? Pockets of native plantings and a campaign to get rid of feral cats is necessary too.

An outdoor events space for open air theatre or gigs or even some sports events. There’s a really cool example of this in London, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, which the picture is of (CC).
Kaiapoi
Recreation activities, walkways, parks, venues for group activities, camp grounds- short term stays. Tourist attractions ie bird sanctuary's etc. gold courses.

This is a great idea. I'd support this one if it was about entertainment and I think people would love to enjoy those hot Canterbury nights under the stars. Lke the annual winery concerts, they are always great nights.
I love this idea - hoping for it in Chch red zone also.
