A fantastic camping ground and activity centre, cafes etc. family friendly, portable stuff in case of another earthquake.

There was an error msg on submitting the 2nd question 'something has gone wrong', so reposting here:

Acknowledge the impact of the earthquakes, and that this place (the red zone) was people's homes and communities before earthquakes. Acknowledge the huge loss it represents to individuals, families and communities. Create a community green space for recreation and bring closer to nature. A green space with a wild/free aspect to it (eg native bush with walking and mountain bike trails, not acres of rugby fields). A place to remember, and to celebrate getting through, being stronger, recovering, growing.

Beautiful native bush areas for family recreation with educational and fun areas.

-Seperate tracks for walking , biking and horseriding. Encourage birds with planting (and wetlands)
-Dog park

1. Offer land back to original owners at 2008 RV land value plus holding costs and remedial works.
2. Compensate original owners who do not wish to buy back at Market Value less 2008 RV Land Value and holding costs and/or remedial costs since pay out.
3. If option 1 not taken up sell orginal or resurveryed lots with remediated work as necessary
Note: remedial work is not to include normal roadworks or utilities maintenance
4. Once you have gone through processes 1 - 3, then you may canvas the public on the use of previously privately owned land and worry about what is happening 15 years into the future.

in the interim please leave all the trees and grass the area. Trees/Shrubs can be sorted out later. We have already lost many beautiful rhododrens and camellias which take such a long time to grow. It is difficult to get a concept on just what sort of area will be vacant while there are so many houses still standing. What ever is decided -sculpture park, orchards, dog parks, motor home/caravan park etc, while fabulous ideas, must be well planned and I don't think this can be done until we have a properly grassed area to work on.
Let Kaiapoi decide which trees/shrubs they want to retain and nurture after the land is cleared.

North Kaiapoi Red Zone Area I would like to see some stormwater retention ponds to service the green zone that has been left behind and is now more prone to flooding, these could be landscaped and developed like Northbrook wetlands area in Rangiora with walking tracks and bridges. Other ideas are walking tracks with the damaged pathways along the stopbank being reinstated or mountain bike tracks. A memorial park is another idea. Reinstate the BMX track. Another idea is to plant native trees which would encourage bird life back to the area. I really do not want to see any building on this land as that would be disrespectful to the previous owners and only passive use of the land ie no concert venues, motorbike tracks or jet boat areas as the noise would be unfair to the block of residental housing in the area. Used for community approaches like parks/playgrounds, sports fields or other comunity spaces like Plunket resourse or church, or other that encourages community initiative.

I would love to see the land still be useful as well as beautified and so I think the planting of edible plants/gardens and especially enduring orchard/fruiting trees which the community and local wildlife can support/ harvest soon, and long into the future would be ideal. I love the thought of people being able to go for a walk and pick and eat as they go. It would add some interest if some aspects of the site were allowed to remain and be gradually over taken by nature, a footpath, a house foundation-so an archeologist in the future would be able to deduce something else was here before.
I for one would be happy to help with planting, pruning etc on an ongoing basis.

An area turned into recreation for everyone, also some well designed native bush (and gardens).
Plus in N.W. corner of old red zone, apartments for everyone.

Well sloped winter sports field to relieve other parks from high use. The fact Kendall park hasn't been used all winter is terrible, no ones fault but terrible!

I would love to see Kaiapoi have an outdoor theatre, where movies nights, plays and musical could be had over the summer period. And create a festival to bring people to our community!
I believe this will grow Kaiapoi profile.

V nice ideas, discussed elsewhere, so they obviously have a following.

I would like to see a big park of native trees and shrubs with walkways for the enjoyment of all especially bird life.
