Many of the red zone areas of Kaiapoi are very wet & this should be utilised. In the past there was a lovely lake with goldfish that was a great environment for families & children. Creating a new lake, or allowing wetlands to develop with cycleways & walking tracks would be great.

Firstly, plant in pine trees for fast growth and trim lower branches. Then under plant with native varieties and later cull the pines. This could become a lovely restful area and also afford shelter from east winds.

* Park and ride space, both for bus and train to Christchurch and adequate parking for locals near shops and businesses
* Park over area for motorhomes which are self contained. Need a flat shingle area
* Recreational areas by river -picnic, walking tracks, cycling track
* Walkway along stopbank suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs etc
* Sculptures along river bank e.g Mark Larsen's letterboxes
* Earthquake memorial

Planted with native bush and grass areas with mountain bike and running tracks with lights for night use. Water areas with feature bridges etc. Recreational area similar to Spencer Park for families. Potential for a tree top walkway and an artistic monument that reflects the hard times of the earthquake.
