I like what they've done at Orokonui Ecosanctuary north of Dunedin. Much of it was funded by public subscription. Kaiapoi is close enough to the city to attract visitors both local, out of town and international.

Kaiapoi

Large park with toilets, facilities, swings etc
Dog park (eg like Groynes) - with water - river for dogs only
Bike/dirt track
Golf course, shift existing course and use Kaiapoi Golf course for building houses

Kaiapoi

The land should be made into green areas, with parks, trees, tracks adn picnic area.
They should be available for everyone to use, walkers, dog walkers, bikes, etc.

This is such a lovely area that we all need to be able to continue to enjoy. I would like to see space for freedom camping to occur or off the grid camping. This should be able to be done without too much infrastructure needed as campers would bring most of what they needed with them. There would need to be septic tanks and waste dumps for camper vans, water supply and maintenance of grounds and unsealed roads. Use could be made of solar panels for limited lighting and pumps. Campers would be responsible for their own rubbish. This could encourage tourists to the area as there are less spaces where this type of camping can be done legitimately. It would also provide a more rustic and probably peaceful place for locals to go to, to get-away-from-it without having to go too far from Christchurch and spend too much money. There should also be space for picnic areas and a playground for day trippers with walkways and beach access.

A food forest could be added around the perimeter

As a resident of Kairaki I am not keen on random people camping next door. the WDC have invested a lot in the redeveloped camp ground. That's the place for camping.

I would like to see an area set aside for a large event space.......so that North Hgaley Park does not get hammered every time a major event is held. By having a designated area you could hold flower shows, festivals and concerts and have plenty of parking and not upset any neighbours .

An area could be fenced off and permanent toilets installed and some of the roading utilised and would give Hagley Park a chance to get a breather and properly regenerate after the earthquakes.

Would be an awesome event space and if planned correctly could be a real draw card to connect people back to that part of town and support any local industry that's left there!

I'm from Kaiapoi and in the future I want a park , playground for the kids and access for fishing along the banks in the red zone area.

In the area from Beswick St east I would like to see a large public recreational area made up of trees, plants and a lake close to the river. Within this area there needs to some access roading but plenty of cycle ways, walkways and picnic areas. Also included a Motor camp, Boat ramp, BMX track & play area.

For the areas closer to the centre of Kaiapoi ie; Charles, Sewell, Cass between the now red zone cut off area & Beswick St I feel these area should be allocated for pensioner / retirement village development (with of course foundations to suit ) This is due to these areas being close to the town centre & the above.

The currant red zone area in Courtney Dr should be redeveloped back to low density housing with the land repaired & suitable foundations.

The Red zone bound by Raven, Hilton, Bowler perhaps half commercial and the rest parking.

The Red zone bound by Black, Hilton, Raven, Rich, kept aside for school parking or future school development.
