I'd love to see a big, green space specifically for families to gather for picnics/BBQs/playground. An interesting space like McLeans Island/Bottle Lake Forest where people can walk and bike - and if you plant the trees now they'll start maturing soon enough. This is a place I would spend a lot of time.
This would be great!
Yeah, like a biking track link? It could be worked into the Waimakariri River Regional Park biking trail - connecting the two? (No idea of logistics, just a thought)
This is a great idea ... i love Spencer Park ... that could be extended through to this area?

I woud like to see mud slides and water slides so people will be able to get outside and do something adventurous so people aren't inside on social media. And trampolines built into the ground.

First of all I would hope that 15 years is not the time line but rather 5 years time. Many previous residents of the red zone will not be around in 15 years time.
Secondly as a Charles Street resident who had hoped to live the rest of my life on that land I would like to see the land sold to a developer who would remediate the land and then returned to a residential development, including some of the ideas suggested by others such as play parks etc, with the previous owners to be given first option to buy land back.
This brings in needed finance instead of being an added cost.
The previous neighbor's I have spoken to would also like to return to their land.
Thank you,
Barbara Townsend.

A weekend fun place to bring the family. Take a ride on the Tuhoe. The kids can have a spin on noddy train. Grab an ice cream, have spin on the chocolate wheel, kids karts, watch a demonstration buy some lunch from one of the international food suppliers (a bit like a cross between the arts centre and a Sunday at new Brighton a few years back) try your hand at tradtional carving/flax weaving
, have a BBQ fly a kite. Befor you leave grab some fresh veggies buy some fresh fish from the locals. Maybe this runs every second weekend? A place every visitor to Chch must visit. I'm sure if we put our heads together there's heaps more great fun things we can add to do/experience. My two cents!

The red zoned area between Black St and the Kaiapoi Borough School would make a wonderful "Kaiapoi Rivertown Historic Precinct" similar to those at Arrowtown or Cromwell or Oamaru. Character buildings including reclaimed heritage cottages from the red zone could be turned into artisan businesses and industries, eg. Bookbinding, psychic readings, Trade Aid, emporiums, 2nd hand book stores, artists' galleries etc. It's close to main centre but in no way draws clientele away from existing shops because need to go past main shopping area to get to this one. Perfect venue for the You, Me, We, Us night market and other art events like buskers or cafes/bars with acoustic bands etc., especially if an open atrium area in centre. A festival could be created to go with the area.

Something open/beautiful that reflects Aotearoa and our unique experiences. We don't want to erase the earthquakes but rather embrace what we can take from it in the future.

Nice ideas - let's not rush to forget our past, there is so much to celebrate - and learn from.

Bike riding tracks and walk ways through native bush. A BMX track, skateboard facilities, a park, playground and picnic area.
Big no to BMX track the last one that was there generated excessive noise which we don't need!

A BMX track
Nice to see the motor home park idea - a number of our former red zone neighbours do now live in motor homes - it is good to recognise that and assist them in every way possible.
